The Rajghat Besant School, Varanasi

Krishnamurti Foundation India

"The purpose, the aim and drive of the school is to equip the child with the most excellent technological proficiency so that he may function with clarity and efficiency in the modern world and, far more important, to create the right climate so that the child may develop fully as a complete human being. This means giving him the opportunity to flower in goodness so that he is rightly related to people, things and ideas, to the whole of life."

-- J. Krishnamurti

The school is residential, co-educational and non-sectarian, with English as the medium of instruction. It is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. Students and staff are drawn from all parts of the country and a few visiting teachers from abroad too. The school aims at a holistic development of each child. It has about 350 students ranging in age from 7 to 18 years, residing in eleven different houses spread over the campus. There are more than fifty teachers, of whom twenty-five also function as House-Parents and live with the students in the houses.

The academic programme is divided into three levels; REJOICE(7 to 10 yrs), Middle School(11 to 13 yrs) and Senior School(Class IX to XII). The overall ratio of staff to students in the school is 1:7, and there is one house parent for every fifteen children. A nursery section is being run for staff children between 4 to 6 years of age.

The school offers a range of extra-curricular activities, like games and sports, yoga, gymnastics, art, music, dance, gardening, computers and literary skills, in all of which students can participate according to their aptitude.

As educators our concerns are:

School Year: The school session commences from April and a detailed school calendar is given to the parents at the beginning of the session. This includes various programmes, vacation, parents visits and Parent-Teacher's meeting for each academic year.

Finances: The School gets no government grants, and finances itself through the school fee paid by the students. The school fee (which may be revised in February of each year) varies depending upon the class into which the student is being admitted. The school fees (inclusive of Tuition, Boarding & Lodging) for a Boarder student is about Rs. 89,000 p.a. for parents working in India and $4500 for parents working abroad. Scholarships are available for deserving students.

Admissions: Admissions are made mainly at the age of seven which is the beginning of primary school(REJOICE) and to a limited extent for other age groups depending on strength of students in each group.Admission to Class XI (Science/Arts/Commerce) is offered only to girls of other schools as well as to boys and girls of our school.

Our admission procedure includes written test followed by an interview with the parents and the student. As an important element, the intention and the academic approach of our school is shared and parents's views on education are taken into consideration for admission.

The application form can be downloaded from the school website and also can be obtained along with the prospectus from the school office, for the next session on payment of Rs. 250/- in cash or by Bank Draft / M.O. in favour of “KFI RAJGHAT BESANT SCHOOL” drawn on any bank in Varanasi. The application form, duly completed, should be submitted to the school office before the last date indicated on the form. Candidates who are selected for admission test and interview will receive a call letter.
